Coleoptera
When exploring the patterns on beetle wing covers I couldn’t ignore the
similarities of the emerging designs with so many other things in our universe.
The spots could be star systems or skin markings or an aboriginal landscape
painting. The patterns connect things from the infinitely small to the
phenomenally vast.
Songs of Joy
These small textiles are a delight to work with. Unlike my
larger pieces which are expressions of the deep and meaningful side of life they
are intuitive constructions of colour and texture. I love unexpected
combinations of textiles and the different surfaces of many kinds of fabrics,
the reflective qualities and changing textures, fascinate me. They are a series
that is ongoing, the singing won’t stop for some time. All are approximately
50x50cms
Songs
- the next generation.
This series is called Understor(e)y and refers to the bush and
the forest floor of my property. The presence of Satin Bower birds is referenced
by the specific blue that they love and collect. All are approximately 55x65 cms
unless otherwise noted.
Natural
History homework Working through a degree in Natural History
Illustration produces a lot of homework. Most of it is quite ordinary but here
are a few of the finished pieces.
Connections
and Resonances
It seems to me that all things in our universe are connected. The
spots on the back of a beetle, seen through a microscope, can be the spots on a
starmap tracing vast constellations. Spots have become my metaphor for the life
that resonates throughout everything.
Nature
Hillsides and rockpools, glimpses of
the beauty of the natural world. My home is surrounded by the myriad details of
nature, the close up views of forest floors and tree trunks, pools of water full
of vegetation and busy insects, collections of pebbles and lichen-covered rocks.
Church Fabrics A
selection of vestments and church fabrics that have been commissioned and
individually designed.
